Cambodian security guards clash with opposition demonstrators in the capital, Phnom Penh, on July 15

from khmer post:Five members of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party arrested in a July protest remain in custody due to a court ruling that denied them bail.
The court in the capital, Phnom Penh, rejected the bail request on Thursday.
In July, eleven members of the CNRP were arrested during an opposition protest in the capital over the 2013 elections – which the opposition disputes. Eighteen security guards were beaten up during the protest.
According to reports, guards attacked the CNRP supporters with batons.
Six of the detainees were released on bail later in November.
Meach Sovannara, the director of the opposition Khmer Post Radio, is among the five members who were denied bail on Thursday.
Defense attorney, Chan Chen, said the court rejected the bail request over flight risk and accusations that the detainees exhibited bad behavior during the July protest.
The five are still expected to appeal the bail decision, Chan added.
Human rights group, Licadho, criticized the Thursday court decision, saying it favored the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) because of current negotiations with the opposition over the political system.
In 2013, the government of Prime Minister Hun Sen said it won the disputed July election despite gains by the opposition.
The opposition says the vote was rigged to allow Hun Sen to remain in power. The CNRP has called for the premier to resign; or for the government to hold a re-run of the vote.
